To Think, Say And Do

Lawrence S. Pertillar 1947 (Connecticut)

No one is exempt,
From choosing what is to think, say and do.
It is an entitlement we are given.
Living with freedoms to do as we please.
Often impulsively.
Without listening to understand.
Or comprehend an intention meant.
That may or may not,
If misunderstood...
Leave someone left unassuming,
They had been solicited to pick...
To initiate a damage done.

In many cases no one is capable to explain,
Who to them said what.
Or the when and where they heard to hear,
Whatever they began to spread.
To tell told to others to believe.
And in their defense,
It is always someone else they accuse.
They can not describe.
Or has a certain identity.

'I'm telling you the truth and all I know.'

'From who,
Did this truth of yours come?'

'I...uh...I...
I know this may sound crazy.
But I never met the person before.
And I didn't think to get a name.'

'And yet you felt obligated to spread a lie.
Now to deny it!
How juicy was this deliciousness?'

'I resent your implication.
I am not one of those,
Average habitual liars.
I just did not think,
Before I opened my mouth to say anything.
We all have done it.'

'What other lies have you told?
To then make excuses for the doing of it.'

'I'm not a liar.'

'Oh...
So who is?
The ones you claim not to know?
Although credible enough,
To whisper sweet nothings...
Into your welcoming inviting ears.
Then with an unassuming childishness,
Off you go to victimize...
Those you do know.
With names to give and where they live.
What they do and where they work.
And their suspected sexual preferences.
To assume because their lives to live,
Is privately away from your nose and ears.
Yet every move on a daily basis they make,
You have dates and times,
With notes you take!

'Well...
I just want to make sure,
My neighbors know...
I want them to feel both safe and secure!'

'Hmmm...I see.
You're one of those nosey busy bodies?
Who can't seem to mind your own business!'

'That...
I admit,
May possibly be true.
But...
A liar I am not!'

'Okay.
Would you prefer to be called,
A professional stalker?
Or a skilled reliable snooper?'

'Well...
Which one has a more acceptable,
Credibility?
But to insist I am a liar?
That I am not.
You can not accuse me,
For my ability to keep others informed.
A liar lies for the enjoyment of it.
I take what I do seriously!'

'Where do people like you come from?'

'I am often asked that same question.
I've been chosen to be blessed, I guess.
Who knows?'
