Yellow Leaf

I drive away from my house, in fearful anticipation of the far commute to work,
after sharing a lovely weekend with my family.
Then right in front of me, I find, this tiny yellow leaf joined in close association to my vehicles windshield wiper.
Will you be my companion on this journey?  I ask the leaf in my mind. And it appears to respond in agreement by the way it waves to me in the breeze.
This small leaf, golden by the sunshine, still waving.
Or was it shivering, in the chilly autumn air?  Wishing to be released to rest in the warm sun on the edge of the road.
As I travel onward, glancing at my little passenger, the windshield becoming crowded by other fall colored leaves, golden, orange, red, floating down from the trees they once clung to.
Perhaps friends of my tiny yellow leaf, wanting to partake in the ride, or request the release of their amber friend from the cars wiper, so to be free to the wind.
My trip comes to an end in the parking lot of my destination.
I say goodbye to my leaf companion, if only in my mind, and the leaf waves goodbye to me in the cool air, shining golden amber in the warmth of the sun.
