STRANGE HIGHWAYS

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

He rides strange highways
                           into the night,
Dark highways no-one else
                                 can ever see.
Highways where second chances
                             may be granted,
Where those who died young
                                   may live again,
And those who did evil
                                  will finally pay.
Old scores must be settled
                                  by enemies,
On this highway of life
                          the highway of death.

He walks along strange highways
                                     late at night,
Dark lands that no-one else
                                     can ever travel.
Highways where lost opportunities
                       may finally be realised.
Where those who were never born
                                 can finally be real.
Long broken friends may
                                at last be renewed.
On this high of new hope
                             on the highway of life.
