MIDNIGHT IN HELL

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Scarlet devils are prancing
Through the land of the dead,
Searching for the souls of
Those who died last night in bed.

Evil figures are lurking
Within the fiery realms of Hell,
Waiting for innocents to pass
So they can use some evil spell.

Yes, at midnight in Hell
All kinds of evil fiends prevail,
To punish the guilty sinners
Whose expectations are curtailed.

Evil floating creatures swoop
Close enough to terrify,
The souls of the guilty
Who have just newly died.

Nightmare visions predominate
In the fire scorched caverns,
Where leaping imps are shrieking
As torture victims squirm.

When it's midnight in Hell
Dreadful fiends are prancing,
While human flesh is roasting
Imps and goblins are dancing.

Bankers, lawyers, politicians
All descend to the fiery dell,
Monstrous people upon Earth
Now face an eternity in Hell.
