My Guardian Angel

David L Emerson II 1980 (Fountain Valley, Can.)

One night I had a dream, and it left this story to tell. I dreamed I saw an angel, but the poor thing wasn't well. His body was bruised and beaten, and his wings were ripped and torn. The Angels could barely walk, and he looked so tired and worn. I couldn't believe all that I was seeing, and had to find out who could be so mean. I walked up to him and asked him angel how can this be. He lifted his head paused a bit and then said these words to me. "I am your guardian angel, a great task as you can see. You've run amok all of your life, just look what you've done to me. Each Mark has its own tale to tell, of deadly wounds destroyed. Of all the times I shielded you so your life would not be toyed. Of all the hungry days, and sleepless nights. And all the dangerous drugs you used I often paid the price. Just keep in mind that this poor Angel is getting old and frail, my days are numbered and someday I just might fail. I couldn't believe all that I just heard, so I knelt down next to him and gave him my word. The next morning I woke and thought heck why should I try, and in the distance I heard that frail angel cry.
