A Previous Desire

A previous desire
A first thought in the morning
A last thought at night
A yearning for sight
A need to be close
A need for touch
A need to feel
An excitement that was so real
For a future yet to come
A future filled with no interruptions
No intrusions
No unwanted opinions
Just us in our dominion
In our space in our place
And all desires continuously fulfilled
But a previous desire
Is far from continuous
What was once yearned for
No no longer anticipated
When then we patiently waited
for no interruptions
To now when interference of life is inevitable
Disturbance of touch is expected
Intrusion of physical magic is unescapable
By no ones doing but our own
Disturbing to be a previous desire
A forgettable pass time
A needless being taken after the activities of life
After work, after hobbies, after the endless needs of others
Stuck in previous status
with the craving, the need to be current
A distant thought is my current position
A now it's time for resurrection or resignation

About this poem

This poem was written about a young couple who went from being engulfed with the overwhelming new love and infatuation with one another to being complacent. The woman still feels the same but the young man is now in the routine of love. No love lost but does not realize he is not in the same place as she is.
