CRY OF A LITTLE BOY

High mountains of my beautiful land
Hear my plead and give me your hand
I’ve been crying for all my boyhood years
May you give me a cave to wipe off my tears?

My father didn’t buy me toys
Just like all other small boys
Beyond the limits of taste
My life was perceived a waste

I didn't go to play
Because I was a lion's prey
My peers called me to play repeatedly
Something I like wholeheartedly

If birds would wish to bring me food
I’d thank every little thing good
Than getting nothing the whole day
But drinking bitter tears staying this way

Going to school was like going to hell
Every time the school prefect rang the bell
My heart torn apart and my tears fell
I wanted to go to school but afraid to tell

My dearest Father high above
Please fill my father’s heart with kindness and love
I didn’t go to school for the whole week
Neither did I go to church nor to play, but inside, sick

My hair, like rags
Blankets and clothes like heaped rubbish
When you arrive Dear Lord, show me your kindness
Amen.

About this poem

This poem is about a little boy who was keen to go to school but was discouraged by circumstances around him. This is currently taking place in our midst where children do not progress in their lives because of environmental factors.

LWAZI MGULWA

My name is Lwazi Praiseworth Mgulwa from Kamastone Village; Whittlesea. I am from a family passionate about writing and exploring different phenomena. As a village boy I grew up being taught to live by guiding principles which made me to be who I am now. I was made to understand the situation of my home and the entire family lines, respect, caring, loving, showing mercy and living in hope even in hopeless situations. The beautiful mountains of my beautiful land have brought something for me to write about. I have met good people along the way and have made friends out of them. Writing has become part in my life, a gift from Creator. Even when I would see myself in the wilderness I know that I will never be alone. Jah bless my family who motivated me to move even further than this step. I therefore show some honour and maximum respect unto them equally. more…
