What Used To Be

What does it truly mean to you...
Would you actually be there for her...
She trusts you;
Maybe that's a mistake...
She hasn't changed how she acts around you or anyone else;
Loving, kind, helpful, forgiving...
Oh but how you have changed dear;
Quiet, disengaged, not a care in the world...
What does it truly mean to you...
To say you're her best friend but be so cold...
Who are you...
One to speak in a negative light behind her back...
For all she has been is her true self...
A woman who hasn't judged you from day one...
Always sees the good in you...
Open your eyes...
What does this friendship mean to you...
If she's the only one putting in the effort...

About this poem

You can be "best friends" with someone for a couple years or even several...and not even realize they're the venomous snake in tall grass.
