Monday morning

leaden clouds obscure the light
in the darkness eyes cannot see
visions distant are hidden away
falling rain drops block the sight

rain drops fall stealing warmth
and chilling wind carries away
hopes that might else be found
within the beating of the heart

strength does weaken and fall away
trembling flesh falls to earth
mud does simply give away
supporting not forlorn hopes

distant lightning within the clouds
rolling thunder here unheard
might that will change the earth
bringing hope known not here

hope does flicker in beating heart
strength of spirit is not quenched
vision turning lifting up
to the heavens that are unseen

arms are lifted and hands cupped
entreaties uttered from the heart
seeking of what might be
a boon sought within the storm

wind does chill fragile flesh
rain that falls cannot clean
clouds might steal the light from eyes
storm cannot take the hope within
