To My Childhood
Danyettia Crawford 1985 (United States)
To that little girl you don’t have to cry no more
Wondering why every role model walked out the door
You are greater than they could see
Life taught you A lot and you must live it relentlessly
You’ve shedded so many tears and hid your pain
Never allowed anyone to know in fear they would use it for their gain
You hid in plain sight pleading for help
No one heard your cry or tried to intercept
All your life you’ve wondered what was wrong with you
So disconnected but managed to push through
Hey baby girl its gone be okay
God gave you strength no one can take away
Your beauty defines the way God envisioned you
Your brains defines just how much He thought of you too
Your heart is big enough to overshadow the pain because you gave love through the storm and rain
I see you standing there afraid and ashamed
Blaming yourself because none of them truly stayed
Cheer up baby girl it wasn’t nothing you could do
God gave you this life because He would see you through
Even though you felt so alone
I was there with you and us together we are strong
You forgive them all for walking out and not being there
Free yourself from the burden of carrying their lost and despair
And remember you are not alone I was there
Hey you! Both beauty and brains
Just know when you read this we are the same
I am you and you are me
This is my truth and yes the pain runs deep
You see me smile even when in pain
Just know I’ve tackled many storms and got through my rainy days
I lay my burden down because I know who got me
And I forgive all those who walked out, lied, or simply didn’t want me
I’m not doing this for you but I’m doing it for me
I made the choice that when God forgave me the little girl was set free!
To my childhood!
About this poem
This poem is about the struggles I didn’t even realize I had until I got older. It’s about releasing the past hurt that keeps you in bondage and forgiving those even if they never said I’m Sorry. It’s about knowing you are always enough.
