Promises

Skye Hall 2006 (Gettysburg)

Some may say promises are childish and fleeting, that they are not something to believe in. No one in the world seems to be trustworthy and making someone uphold their end of a promise seems so crazy, we get called controlling or clingy.

Small promises are things we can get over easily sometimes. But big promises with words so strong yet full of lies aren't something we can move past in an hour or week. Hanging onto the lies they told you is like holding onto a rope and letting it give you a burn.

Maybe it would hurt less to let go or maybe it would hurt more. but hanging on leads to one thing, never-ending pain. Whether you let go and hit rock bottom or stay right where you are there is a chance of healing.

promises are childish and fleeting, maybe you're right. But maybe it's all we got.

About this poem

Promises have always been a scary thing for me, nobody is honest nowadays and every day I struggle with situations like promises.
