Watch A Spider

Today I sit and watch a spider,
Nimbly, crossing the lines of her weave,
Finding them deftly with long forelegs,
Plunking her fanny at each mooring span,
Securing, a gossamer thread.

Around and around she goes,
Spiraling her lace by rote,
To what does she ponder as she toils so,
Certainly...  nothing I can divine,
Dinner perhaps?

Sometimes, I am like her I suppose,
Spinning through life, so focused,
Forgetting, there is more besides my web,
There is a world beyond my periphery,
And I, am not living in it.

I am glad I watched the spider today.
