Illumined

what was once dark ... radiantly shines!

it can now be seen
only because the rays unveil it.
 
beforehand, its appearance was cloaked,
for suspended in darkness it remained faint.

like the moon which becomes visible
when the glow of sun shimmers upon it ~
yet otherwise can never be seen:
the lonely and the lowly ~
as confined to thick rusty chains in a dungeon
where the blackness of starless night is king ~
perk cheerfully to life (like a daffodil
spontaneously unraveling its savory petals)
once the Son glimmers upon
the penitence of a broken and contrite heart.
