The Flower Lady
I once knew a lady named Marjorie
At age ninety, she was very tiny,
But planting flowers was her glory,
Everything she did was very tidy.
She was so neat and trim,
And a wide grin to boot.
Everything was planned and not just a whim,
She had no critics and didn't care a hoot !
At ninety pounds she weighed soaking wet,
She had a poodle dog named Maggie
And a wide brim hat, never to sweat,
Everything in place, it was never shabby !
But she was also called the Zinnia Lady,
A well known annual flower.
Her expertise brought her fame and many allocates,
The colors in the zinnias got louder and louder..
But she had a soft spot for other things too
Like tomatoes, cucumbers and potatoes.
We all shared in her bounty she grew,
Fresh things on our plate with many thanks.
Why do some people come into your life ?
We can all learn from each other.
She had a knack with flowers, she was so wise,
Her favorite expression was "oh brother."
But some good things do end
Alas, she moved out west to be with family,
She was a real character, a one of a kind friend,
To know her was so great because of her humanity !
