Every Human Being of Bangladesh is a Lover and Poet

Nurul Hoque 1965 (Comilla)

Once the queen of Tripura wanted to know
The real number of poets in Bangladesh
Hearing her question
From the branches of my senses
Rained all the yellow leaves
The rain kept falling one by one
All of them are yellow leaves.
Smeared in egg yolks the sunny morning was the witness
I never looked into the eyes of the Queen
As I knew the tears in my eyes
Can never douse the fire of her anger
Enveloping myself in fear and hesitation I said,
By birth every human of Bangladesh is a lover and a poet
On hearing this a kind of  creeper burgeoned on the pious body of the Queen
Hiding myself in that delphinium
And said it again,
Please take back your question
O Queen with an artistic soul
Since I am not a poet
I am unable to say the exact number of poets…
