COVID REFLECTIONS

COVID REFLECTIONS

By Dr Badal Pal,
Manchester

Covid has upstaged all lives.
People running here and there,
desperately searching for,
hospital beds with furore.

Covid has wrecked many lives.
People dying  for lack of oxygen.
They can’t breathe, almost their last.
Life is ebbing away,  sure and fast.
Petrol has run out in their car.
Alas no oxygen yet ,so far.

Covid has ravaged all corners of the globe.
We have for long been isolating,
so that when we gather again no one is missing.
But now horror  piled upon horror,
disease and death at our door
with a vengeance all over
all shaken to the core here and after.

Covid has ruined the economy and the services.
They say ‘Man proposes
but  God disposes’.
Corona has dessimated human kind.
Is this the hidden hand of the Almighty behind?
The invisible felon has halted us to a grind.

Covid has pervaded all aspects of our lives.
Hand washings, facial masks.
Crowd avoidance least to ask.
Social distancing also a must.
All these restrictions a major task.

Covid has permeated into mass psyche.
Fighting emotions , bottled in casks.
Covid crisis, life and death struggle,
in the midst of all this , personal bruegel.

Covid has upstaged all lives.
Restaurants closed , sports banned.
Schools a fiasco, evil happenstance.
No hugging, funerals derailed.
Even in death , life is curtailed.

Covid has dominated us.
What a lunacy , only 30 to mourn,
to bid farewell to a loved one gone,
yet 3000 allowed in a sweaty nightclub
and pointless games ,policies  bankrupt.
This  just cannot be right .

Covid is a global disaster.
In Japan now before the Olympics,
public  are protesting against the mighties
that the games be scrapped immediately.
They are using slogans such
‘we have no vaccines, no drugs,
are we supposed to fight Covid with bamboo spears ‘! , as in the old days against the Americans?

Covid has subjugated rulers and governments.
It’s said ‘Uneasy lies the head that wears the Crown’
Where are our leaders , acting more like clowns?
Lockdown after lockdown
Furlough can only help
out of ten perhaps one.

Covid has flabbergasted our politicians.
Their diktat got more twists than a rattlesnake in a hot bath.
Soon they will have to dam up the flood path
of the public’s displeasure from the aftermath.

Covid has unfurled en masse boundaries
across the planet hurling miseries,
now more than ever we have to fight,
we have to strive ,
all of us.
Science will save us from the Corona virus.
