THE ANSWER TO DIOGENES

The drums of war do sound again,

Anew the battle roars;

The conflict for man’s soul begins,

Again, the blood-lust soars.

The choice, made over and over again,

Without finality;

The crossroads between self esteem,

And immorality.

Observe the heart withstanding blows,

Directed at the soul;

Observe the mighty spirit, men,

Discarding the false goal.

All hands to deck, the storm’s thick,

Directions have lost sense;

The blacks and whites no longer clear,

The grays are just pretense.

And still, the light can shine on through,

If the battle cry can;

Be coined, and interpreted as,

“I am, in fact, a man.”
