SMOKE

Smokers smoke and non-smokers
Soak in the smoke,

Oh! It's so unfair to the body,
Mind and mine, Of course I mind.
I care about the cloud of dust,
but refuse to cuss or fuss.
We share the predicted inflicted,
Cancer of the lungs

We non-smokers must endure
While waiting for the smokers to be cured
Let's try to be sure not to breathe,
the unclean polluted scenes
But we sin...
We pretend the smoke is okay

We sin
We lie
We too are high
From this nicotine thing.
Smokers smoke and Non-smokers choke
on the smokers 'SMOKE"

About this poem

“SMOKE” was used to combat the surging nicotine addiction among my High School English Class student. In Oklahoma Public Schools District, Oklahoma City, Ok, students were instructed to memorize this poem. While teaching them to read, write and appreciate various styles of English Literature this simple work help break the habit both students and family members through public recitation. Try memorizing it if you need help to quit the habit.
