Time Drifts By

Jack Berrell 1993 (Altrincham)

Time is a funny and fickle thing, isn’t it?
You begin in this world drifting along by,
In a manner that shifts, adapts, and changes as time drifts by,
You begin your time in a way so infantile, so highly strung, so boldly thought of, so mighty,
It isn’t until time drifts by that I re-base myself into a new chapter.

What is this new chapter, I hear you ask why?
This new chapter embellishes a fresh new lease of life,
As the time drifts by, you realise that being caught up in the moment may feel all but right,
But until you can see your own strife, do you see the light?

A light seemingly fading as time drifts by, the way of world coming to my plight,
As I write the events of the days, weeks, months and years, it all but becomes shallow and clear
Like a kite, loosely waving about in flight, a consistently varying sight,
Thunderclouds & lightning, intense and immense, like a shaking fence braving the elements of all that the atmosphere can commence.

Yet, despite that, these events symbolise
and coerce all pretence,
It is not until I look back that I realise all is mellow of one’s lost soul,
For now I see that as time drifts by, the journey through life may not feel whole,
It’s easy to get stuck in a rut or to shut it all out,
But please remember that your best way out is to move forward and count on your blessings.

As time drifts away, I’ll not throw away today, tomorrow or any other day.

Thank you.
