My Demon

You never gave me promises
Yet I expected so much.
You’ve drawn lines
I’ve stepped over again and again.
I pushed you away, (or did I?)
But never put you to blame.
You don’t speak,
Yet, I always hear you call.
“I’ll lift you up”, (I hear)
Then you smile when I fall.
Steer clear, if you dare,
I am not all you crave.
What I fear the most
Is that you’ll be there till my grave.
