Sun Kissed Girl

The complexion of sundown
With sunshine radiating from my cheeks
Do they see the peace it brings to the world
The countries and mountains it has reached

Oh would they value me if they knew
My gene’s came straight from the Eve collection
Make up from God’s finest palette of paint
But still lacking my kindred’s affection

My skin ridiculed for its richness
While being sold handmade from a can
The shape I once wore mockingly
Has now been purchased in high demand

My hair styles once mimicked in nature
Homage paid declared as the weeping willow
Mocked in my youth ridiculed in my age
As the magnolia Kobus now rest on my pillow

A perfect God made me
An imperfect world tries to break me down
Father your daughter prays for the strength
To handle life when stress comes around

Authenticity is My God given gift
This is shown whenever I walk
My ancestor’s knowledge passed to me
You can hear it in my talk

Culturally Rich girl
Melaninated wealthy with my sundown skin
Underappreciated and underrated
While still loving the skin I’m in
