Radiotherapy - That lonely place

Royston 1946 (Reading)

It’s a lonely place that I go to each day
to let radiotherapy have its way.
I sit silently waiting for my call,
and then lay still, exposed before them all.

They twist and turn me like a slab of meat
and then I watch them make a hasty retreat
leaving me lying there all on my own,
waiting and watching, listening. Alone.

Then I realised that Jesus was there
as silently I breathed out my prayer,
“I will never leave you, my dear,” He said
and laid there beside me upon that bed.
