Girl You Love Me Way Too Much

As you lay there softly sleeping
I keep wondering what went wrong.
I gave you all the love I had to give you,
You said it didn't matter all along.

Well I thought you were the one who
Would not go and make me so blue,
That I cry for you in the middle of the night.
You told me things were gonna be alright.

My sad eyes hunger for your love,
My tired bones yearn for your touch.
But in the very words you have spoken,
"Girl, you love me way too much."

The last time that I came to town,
I called you on the phone.
I wanted so much just to hold you,
You said you'd rather be alone.

Well you're still the same old cowboy,
Always roaming around the town.
No horse, no woman is ever going to break you,
You'll die before you ever live that down.

My sad eyes hunger for your love,
My tired bones yearn for your touch.
But in the very words you have spoken,
"Girl, you love me way too much."

About this poem

I once loved a man who didn't love me. Whenever I did something special for him or forgave him for wronging in me in some way, he would say to me "Girl, you love me way too much". One night, as he lay peacefully sleeping and I lay softly crying, this poem come to me as a song and I wrote it down.

They come from deep inside and tend to be about feelings, thoughts and experiences in my life. more…
