A dark and desolate place

There’s a shadow in my heart,
Where light can never play.
A dark and desolate place,
Where broken memories lay.

This place was for the fallen,
For things that couldn’t be.
Where shattered hopes and dreams were left
They couldn’t be set free.

Of tragedy, loss, love and life,
Of a time long ago.
For the memory of a soul mate,
I could have taken as my wife.

I walked away,
My back was turned,
For all my thoughts of love and hope,
I feared were spurned.

Things have changed,
The light is shining,
That memory has awoken,
Words of love have been spoken.

I heard your words,
I gazed upon you’re your face,
Now again there is light,
In that dark and desolate place.
