Broken Angels
John Jessup Kennan 1953 (Pomona)
Murder-suicide in the hamster cage
The goldfish floated up today
Crystal angel missing a wing
Mourns from a shelf by the hallway
Cat's twenty-two, lives in a box
Medicated beyond deceased
There's dog hair all over the furniture
A one-eyed angel on the mantlepiece
Lipstick smeared cherubim
Redefine your lonely love
Having a form of godliness
Denying the power thereof
Twin candle holder angel cracked
Now it only holds one twin
Lizard belly up 'cause Mommy
Forgot to stop for crickets again
The Paintball Kid has left his mark
Branded into Mommy's tush
Helped himself to Mommy's purse
Left her with her burning bush
Lipstick smeared cherubim
Redefine your lonely love
Having a form of homelessness
Denying the power thereof
Mommy's having cosmetic surgery
On her separation anxiety
They'll sew back on that missing wing
With chemical propriety
Then they'll repair the broken eye
Reattach her missing twin
Rearrange matter in her head
Lasers can fix anything
Lipstick smeared seraphim
Redefine their only love
Having a form of powerlessness
Denying the God thereof
Chihuahua fell in a gopher hole
Was never heard from again
Hound and poodle bay at the moon
Mommy let another mutt in
The Paintball Kid's in Juvenile Hall
For crimes against humanity
While Mommy admires the angel tattoo
On her butt in the vanity
Lipstick smeared goddesses
Redefine their holy love
Having a form of powerlessness
Denying the God thereof
