Analysis of Indulge Me

like you do these charlatans
that claim to be
poets. they are not even
remotely related to the words
they pen.

like you do your exes
who, in spite of all the
hurt, are still welcome.
floating above thin sheets of ice.
gracious idiots.

like you do an artificial smile
that clings to the fallacy that invented it,
unknowingly. lingering
for a chance to
be real.

like you do love
not for others, but for the sake of
love. there is little
they truly know of
true love.

like you do the optimists
drowning in the light that
‘saves’. a bloody ruse to
draw in and quarter those incapable of
a satiable fix.

like you do these children and grandfathers
that think it best to ignore
middle-aged advice. they have no
way of knowing when they’re in
over their heads.

like you do the pompous and self righteous
the magnanimous, the assertive,
the verbose. pricks,
regurgitating emotion
on cue.

like you do the sun on
a cold day, the rain from
pastel grey skies. and everything
I can’t think of
in between.

like you do God.
