Analysis of Meat in the Trees
Meat in the Trees
by Jo Patti
From her second poetry book, "CLASH-Poems From Conflict Zones" with Artwork by Denali Schmidt (published on Amazon.com)
There is no ease
in describing these
bits and pieces of people
blasted high, spreading low
Landing on streets and balconies
children screamed at the meat in the trees
I saw the shattered glass
bent down to have a closer look
Burned flesh like striated bacon
Inspecting so I would not be mistaken
No, I was right
a thumb still attached to an index finger
I did not look up to the branches
It was not my day to take more chances
I had already smelled and seen
enough of macerated human beings
