Analysis of Ye Olde Victorian Tea Shoppe
Donning my top hat and
coat,
I take hold of my walking cane.
I take my self off,
in the direction of
memory lane.
I chance to frequent,
my favourite tea shoppe,
defrocking my self of hat,
coat and walking cane,
to a tall mahogany wood
stand,
intending for a while,
to be relaxed and stop.
My requirements were
swiftly bestowed upon me.
I had made order for a
delightful fruit scone,
freshly buttered with
clotted cream, strawberry
conserve and a refreshing
pot of my favourite Earl Grey
tea.
I seated my self in a window,
that was bowed, with bulls
eye glass panes.
Sipping my tea and enjoying
my scone,
I viewed to the outside street.
The heavens had opened
and down poured the rains.
Horses drawing hansom cabs,
clattered along the cobbles of
the highway,
whilst ordinary folk and gentry,
hurried along on foot,
being drenched,
from head to toe,
to get out of the way.
I had intended to carry on my
walk,
after my enjoyment in the tea
shoppe,
to meet old acquaintances
and to catch up on local scandal,
gossip and general talk.
I decided otherwise,
as I could see that the rain
was not going to give up.
It was heavily splashing up
off the cobbles,
which soon looked shiny,
slippery under foot and
lashing against the window.
I gave thought to my venture,
drinking my last,
of my Earl Grey from my cup.
I concluded, that the rain was
going to persist,
very much to my dismay and
not to my delight.
I settled my account,
re-cloaked and made my
exit.
I was fortunate enough to
cause a hansom cab to
stop,
conveying my self,
to my residence,
paying a penny farthing,
giving the driver a generous
tip,
at my destination,
where I did alight.
