Analysis of Old Pilgrims Way
When I was young and courting be
We took a stroll my love and me,
The stars were out the moon was bright
It surely was a lover's night.
We kissed beneath the cherry trees
The air was warm so soft the breeze,
We walked along lost in love's dream
Strolling by the trickling stream.
The night was young we felt so jolly
As we took the path up to the folly,
Suddenly the air turned cold
An eerie mistiness then took hold.
Beneath the folly's archway stood
A grim old figure in a hood,
It slowly turned and seemed to stare
Through the murky misty cold dank air.
We were both shocked and then surprised
As it disappeared before our eyes,
Was this a pilgrim on his way
A ghostly figure of a bygone day?
Along the route to Canterbury
Winding through those paths of many,
My love and I still speak of the day
We saw the ghost along Pilgrims Way.
