Analysis of Nameless

I knew you not. You were--
A face; a face floating amongst a
Sea of others so vast it was a wonder
I noticed you at all.
But I noticed you- your existence, that is.
I never learned your name, or where you
lived or hung out or anything of the sort;
I never bothered. You were content with
Your life and I was content with mine.
Still, I can't help but think--
You seemed like one I would've liked to know.
It's not like I thought about it a lot; perhaps
You seemed like someone who could've been a good friend-
Perhaps maybe just an acquaintance.
I think I had a class with you; I'm actually not too sure;
Maybe I just noticed you in the hallways.
I could've sworn you made me laugh at least once though;
Just random offhand comments to those nearby.
Facebook suggested we be friends once- although I never
Really followed the advice; our mutual friends were few.
Who knows? You could have been someone I could have
Chilled with, or maybe you played an instrument--
We could have made some music, Changed the world.

There's no use to wonder now, I suppose.
The possibilities are no longer there; I don't usually
Live with regrets, but it would've been nice to see
where coincidences and circumstances could have
taken us. I'll make sure not to waste another opportunity.
Thank you for the lesson, for the thoughts.
Rest in peace, Friend.
