Analysis of Mortal Coil

I carry around this mortal coil,
Asking the question why?
What is life if an empty shell,
To grow up, grow weary, and die?

I look to the light of stars,
Burned out so long ago.
Their light shines ethereally,
I wonder if they know?

I question reason, heaven, and earth,
What is the point of it all?
Are we not men wanting to be birds,
To fly, to rise, and fall?

To this, this is my single reply.
I am ready, ready to die.
