Analysis of Legacy

Ars longa, Vitae brevis
Indeed, art is long, life is short.
Long after this old oak tree
has lost its leaves
its branches snapped and
trunk uprooted
it would have imparted
a lasting imprint.
Life imitates art, 'tis often said
and this tree's certain to follow that,
its branches growing in all directions
soaring as a freebird
its roots multiplying
reaching for every opportunity
to round up as a perfectly shaped tree.
Such is the legacy I shall leave -
to feel no constraints
to pursue every dream
to be as well rounded as a
man for all eternity can be.

Alexander Lim

I am a neurologist, who writes mostly medical articles for publication. When I have time, I tend to write essays and forums, sometimes for our local newspaper in areas that interest me, some of which may be quite controversial. I love "point" and "counterpoint", having been a co-captain of my Hi-school debate team. Poetry is not my genre of choice. I do it when some subjects prompts me, but I do find solitude in it. more…
