Analysis of I'll Just Drown You Out

Perry Campanella 1948 (FL)

How I'm gon'a drown you out
I don't want or need you anymore
     your words once sweet no-doubt
in my ear assurin' me our love was pure

You just led me on for, what, one last time
your cheatin' heart, leaves me to believe no word
while your actions tell me - you will never be all mine
no need to say it - I've already heard,

Sorry doesn't cut it - lies won't matter now
you just completely made up my mind
just don't want you, I won't listen anyhow
why is no law to make a broken heart a crime,

Well I'll take my chances, too walk alone,
with no way to make you pay for your lies
I'll leave you now, work my own way home
time to dry tears from my eyes,

Chasein' once good ole' dreams, now alone,
single, is what I'm now all about...
I'll roam where you can't shout, home,
with ears closed, surly I'll just drown you out

Perry Campanella

I first started writing songs, so I thought - at ten years-old ( so young ) I didn't let anyone see them and burned all for a great fire. I was later encouraged to write by a nun - a Catholic nun, whom did hear me singing while washing pots n pans, after which she provided me a slice of her pie and saidyou need to join our choir for the talent you have needs not pots n pans to drown-out your lovely voice; Shy then and now I did as she asked; So she would come -by to hear me sing. after which another slice of pie would be offered. We would sit together and write poetry and to this day I haven't washed a single pot or pan! Though I'll bet-ya I can "spot a poem to pen" more…
