Analysis of Anesthesia

The train makes its morning debut to the city.
New passengers move up the stairs, sleepy-eyed and numb.
The train to Chicago gathers its strength, produces speed,
and I hear that familiar anesthetic sound.
It is that friendly mechanical chirp that lulls me into another
milkshake-thick memory.
