Analysis of All American Family

Don't you understand the damage you have done?
For you it's just a memory, but for me the pain lives on.
You left your little girl staring out the window, with her bags full of hope.
Yet you failed to keep your promises, again you didn't show.
Mom always made sure I kept in contact with you.
She didn't want me in the middle of you two.
Everytime I came to visit you, all you did was bash her to me.
Instead of getting to know your only daughter, you would rather hurt her, by hurting me.
You played house with the new wife and took in her kids as if they were your own.
Left me in the shadows crying, feeling abandoned and alone.
Then you played the victim, as if I was the one to tear your world apart.
How could you lie to everyone, and pretend like we broke your heart.
I'm the one who has trust issues after several years have passed.
I am always afraid of people walking out of my life, and my relationships never last.
Went through hell and back with an illness, because I thought I wasn't good enough.
The worst part is you have no idea that you've made my life so tough.
Instead of being the adult and admiting you could have been a better dad,
You cry to your family about how I never send you a birthday card, and how your so sad.
I have reached out to you over the years so many times, only to get shut down.
You made a mockery of my attempts to see you, and you wonder why i'm not around.
There are times where I wish I was that girl with the All-American family.
I will always love the idea of you, daddy, just not the person you turned out to be.
