Analysis of About Me

I have been writing poetry for over twenty
years. I began when I was nineteen, in an
attempt to make some sense of my life. Like
most young people, I first read poets such
as Sylvia Plath, William Blake, and Christina
Rossetti. Although, I had never been to
college, there was not a poet whose
work I disliked. Pablo Neruda, Lucille
Clifton and Naomi Shibib Nye were soon added
to my reading list. Embarrassed by my first
stilted efforts, I would, ( in those
early years of writing), destroy my poems,
afraid that someone would find these note-
books and wonder what it was all about!
About two years ago, I began to realise
that poems are meant to be shared, that once
you write, you see life differently. Every
person and experience is a gift: an
opportunity to remember them in verbal
snap-shots. I hope you enjoy these poems.
