Analysis of A Hero
Regrets, shivers in the wind,
I catch them slipping
down the back of my neck.
I should have stayed
within the folds of education,
but when young, arrogance consumes.
And here I am now, wasted,
pulling myself from the gutter,
brushing down the dead leaves
from my world weary clothes.
I could have studied,
then perhaps I would be a hero now,
fighting fires with the best of them,
or saving lives - a professional man.
But here I am, drunk on my own misery.
Time - to return and have this hindsight,
I would go back in a blink and smile,
leave the foolish dreams behind
and take on new goals with a flourish.
There would be no alcohol distorting,
no mocking of those who had real aspirations,
but pure determination on my part,
ears open to the advice offered kindly.
Regrets, shivers in the wind,
I catch them slipping
down the back of my neck.
