Analysis of 40somethings

I'm                                   totter,
         on              teeter-
                    a

UP,
Somedays              Somedays
                                                   DOWN,

Soaking
                   in
                            self-
                                        evaluation
                                                                 deep,
                                                                              down,
                                                                                             profound…

Am I all I can be?  Can I be more?  Am I enough?  Should I be more?
I'm already mid-way.
MID-WAY! OH NO!
My heart misses a summersault and crashes into a fence,
My brain frantically over talks,
I've no defense!

No
            longer
                              soaking
                                                 but
                                                              drowning…

Have I done everything I should have, anything I could have?
I'm I truely all that I seem? What's left? What goals? What dreams?

I'm   on
              a                                       i  can't
                     teeter-  Totter  and                 get
                                                                             OFF!

I   Hang
              On
                     For
                            Dear
                                        Life,
                                                  Too  Terrified,
                                                                                To
                                                                                      let myself

just
                                                                                                          F
                                                                                                              A
                                                                                                                 L

Naomi Buote

Hi, I'm an ESL teacher, but hey, I don't matter....IT's the words. I love that you all like writing and look forward to reading your work and being inspired. I feel I'm not alone at this. I write a lot for my students to get them to write back. Here in Quebec, in French schools literature seems to get forgotten especially at primary and secondary levels...well who has time between all those French rules you have to teach! So in the ESL classroom, I try and introduce as much literature as I can. I try to get students to enjoy it. Then, I show them how it helps them to see the gray and a way past the end of their noses. A word by itself is a wonderful thing, as worthy to the fiddle one string but adorned with a sentence a word blossoms in sense inviting young hearts to sing...
