Analysis of Insomnia

By: Curtis A. Carroll, 12/17/2015

Lying in bed, wide awake,
Counting stars instead of sheep.
Watching the shapes and forms clouds make;
While trying to get a good night’s sleep.

Dark clouds, white clouds, drifting by
As if commanded by the distant thunder
Flashes of light, then a patch of blue sky
Is it a storm or a celestial wonder?

A gust of the wind, a shower of rain,
Kissing the parched - Earth again, and again.
Loud thunder shaking my balcony door
Silence for a moment, then more and more.

Twisting and turning, I lay in bed
Sleep not coming, not even a wink
Staring at the sky, scratching my head
Being entertained by a cosmic link.

At last the dawn breaks
I get up to make my bed
“Don’t worry about sleep, for Heaven’s sake!”
“You will have lots of time for that when you’re dead!”

Note: Sleepless nights.
