Le chien noir me poursuit dans l’orage
A travers de hideux pays plats,
Et tous deux, tristes comme des glas,
Nous passons labour et pâturage.
Il franchit buisson, mur et barrage…
Et je n’ai pas même un échalas !

Et, songeant aux martyrs de la rage
Qu’on étouffe entre deux matelas,
Je chemine, effroyablement las,
Presqu’à bout de force et de courage…
