Analysis of Forêt brûlée

On voit ce grand fond de vallée
Fuligineux sous les cieux ronds :
Là, terrain, herbes, rameaux, troncs,
Toute une forêt fut brûlée !
D'elle, si verte et si peuplée,
Qui, si fière, portait son front,
Narguait le vent, raillait l'affront
Du tonnerre et de la gelée,
Il reste la place... raclée,
Croupissante et noire, meublée
D'un seul arbre, cuit tout de bon :
Un paysage de charbon
Dans un gouffre de la vallée !
