Tout effrayé de ce monstre nocturne,
Je vis un corps hideusement nerveux,
A longue barbe, à longs flottants cheveux,
A front ridé et face de Saturne :

Qui s'accoudant sur le ventre d'une urne,
Versait une eau, dont le cours fluctueux
Allait baignant tout ce bord sinueux
Où le Troyen combattit contre Turne.

Dessous ses pieds une louve allaitait
Deux enfançons : sa main dextre portait
L'arbre de paix, l'autre la palme forte :

Son chef était couronné de laurier.
Adonc lui chut la palme et l'olivier,
Et du laurier la branche devint morte.
