Analysis of In the dark

I reach my hand into the dark,
stretching and flexing achingly, searching
for what may not be there. A key,
a light, a small bit of hope. Something, anything
to help me be free.

I find no hope, just the reminders.
Reminders of where I am, how I got here,
and who those bones used to be.
A friend had been there in the dark,
waiting just like me.

I am suffocating in the silence,
the dirt, dust, and decay all around me, on me,
in my lungs and I can't breathe.
There is nothing to search for, here in the dark,
no one to hear me scream.

About this poem

This poem is inspired by many of the horror stories I have seen both in person and on the screen. From the River to the Sea
