Analysis of Fond de jardin

Henri de Regnier 1864 (Honfleur) – 1936 (Paris)



Le noir lierre aux douces roses enlacé
Décore le portique et son treillage vert,
Et l’on voit s’entr’ouvrir le pétale de chair
Près du feuillage en cœur qui vers lui s’est glissé ;

Une amoureuse odeur de soir et de passé
Se mêle au dur parfum terrestrement amer ;
La fleur de sang sourit à la feuille de fer,
Car de leur double poids son orgueil s’est lassé.

Un bassin, à l’écart, où rôde, ombre d’or grave,
Un cyprin, ça et là, qu’une herbe glauque entrave,
S’engourdit, et sa moire à jamais léthargique

Mire un dauphin de saxe arqué sur son piédouche
Et, seule, la plus haute au faîte du portique,
L’image, inverse en l’eau, d’une rose à sa bouche.
