Jeg var et Jordens Barn og fuld af Lune,
Og Glæde var min Tanke som mit Ord.
En Pige saae jeg — Øinene var brune.
De bandt mig fast til denne skiønne Jord.

Jeg saae en Pige, alt var Aand og Tanke,
Den klare Himmel jo i Øiet laae;
Dødt var mit Hjerte, nu det maatte banke,
Og Siælen barnligt mod sin Himmel saae;

Det Brune vinker ned, det gjør mig svimmel,
Det Blaae mig aabner Kjærlighedens Himmel.
