Analysis of Cruel Mistress

Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)

Injustice
Is a cruel mistress,
Hiding in the shadows,
Waiting to strike.
She often walks among us,
Unnoticed,
As we go about our daily lives.
Yet, when injustice touches us,
Only then do we take notice of her.

We walk through life with blinders on,
Focused only on our own path.
We turn a blind eye to the struggles of others,
As we chase our own dreams.
But when injustice comes knocking on our Door,
We become acutely aware
Of its presence.

Suddenly,
The world becomes a dark
And dangerous place,
Full of unknown terrors.
We see the struggle and pain
Of those around us,
And we feel their hurt.
We become passionate advocates for justice, Calling for change
And demanding action.

Yet, as time goes on
And our own wounds begin to heal,
We quickly forget the pain of others.
We go back to our old ways,
Ignoring the cries of those
Who still face injustice
Every day.

It is a sad truth
That we only think about injustice
When it happens to us,
When it becomes personal.
We need to open our eyes
To the struggles of others,
To the injustices in the world
That don't directly affect us.
Only then can we begin
To truly fight for change,
For a world
Where everyone is treated fairly
And with compassion.
