Analysis of Heaven
Joe Strickland 1986 (Hobbysville, SC)
I’ve always been skeptical of heaven
A place where souls ascend to after death
Where the pearly gates open wide
And streets are lined with gold
But what if a soul doesn’t make the cut?
Do they remain in a void of darkness?
Is death the end of all that we are?
Or is there something more?
These questions plague my mind
As I grapple with the unknown
Wondering if there is life after death
Or if it’s just a lifeless abyss
But even if there is an afterlife
I’m not sure I want to live forever
The idea of eternally existing
Is both intriguing and terrifying
I find comfort in the thought of returning
To the earth that created me
To decompose and nourish
The cycle of life and death
Perhaps the true beauty of existence
Lies in accepting the impermanence
And cherishing every moment we are given
Before we return to the earth's embrace.
