Analysis of Entropic Girl On The Street

Andrew Berry 2005 (Pennsylvania)

She is wearing a matt-gray sweatshirt
and walking to the pace of a heartbeat.
White strings in her ears,
she cries toward an unknown ellipsis.

Sadness suddenly explicit.
Meaning, implication, as inherent,
trapped into the soles of her feet–
always lifting, always internal..

I do not comfort her,
but watch, take note–
subtle, perhaps its own intervention.
Background noise: the rumble of air sifting.

This then: a people beyond any
immediate togetherness.
11:44PM, Thursday. It begins to rain. Clouds overhead
and the printing of a new wetness:
the push of nonbeing.
