Analysis of Darkness

My demons came and spoke again, repeating the failures that filled my head.
All the while I lay in bed, wishing for silence in their stead.

I couldn't help but agree with what they'd say, about how I had failed and broke today. Not just this one, but of every day. Telling the past, as if on replay.

I tried to sleep to hold their voices at bay, but this brought no peace to my dismay. I'm their toy, and they wish to play.

I wept a while before I slept, and as I slept along they crept. As they crept my peace was swept. Even in my dreams, I simply wept.

I begged for help, I tried to reason. They simply called me a worthless heathen.
Beyond broken, my soul was beaten.
All I had wanted was to be well treated.

I wore down eventually, ground to the bone. I could take no more, and my colors were shown.

My demons' whispers grew silent like stone, for they had released a beast far worse and old.

In their place loomed something cold. Their actions held, and their voices began to fold. Their words had been but a toll, to pay the fare for what the past had stole

In my head stirred an evil tenfold, they had released the devil I had buried long ago.  The monster I had cast and chained to the depths below.

The demons had been bad, but seldom bold, and now they saw what was to unfold. The sight that befell them was a darkness to behold.

My worst demon, my lucifer, stood and took his throne. Upon his head he wore my sins untold. His eyes burned, like flames of gold, and the face he bared was mine alone.

Misery was swept in his wake. As he rose, my mind crumbled, and began to break. My heart and soul bled and ached, my very being started to shake.

Harsh had they been, but nothing to compare. Not to the hatred for myself that me and I shared.
