Analysis of Tuesday Morning
Luke Yates 2003
Our favorite coffee shop finally reopened,
Alone, I walked in,
Like we used to
Every Tuesday morning.
Alone, I order for one,
A cruel substitute for our normal joint order.
Something took me back,
Maybe it was the barista's voice,
We always used to make fun of,
Or the late art that always blew us away.
But for a moment, I felt you with me again,
It was warm,
A giant smile flew to my face.
But the moment was just that,
The smile returned to a blank stare,
The warmness fleeted and the cold air hit me,
Harder than it usually does.
The hole I felt in my chest depended,
I felt small,
Insignificant.
Everywhere I looked took me back,
To a time I won’t ever be able to relive,
To feelings I will never feel again.
The warmth reminded me I was in the cold,
So I drank my coffee and settled in,
This was the new normal,
This was a Tuesday morning.
